Matthew brings more than 15 years of experience with Four Seasons to the new Private Residences at 706 Mission, San Francisco. Most recently, Matthew was Resort Manager of Four Seasons Residence Club, Aviara, Carlsbad, CA. He will lead a team dedicated to providing the highest quality service and lifestyle experiences to residents of 706 Mission.

Q: What is Four Seasons “anticipatory” service?

A: It’s interesting, because our residents typically come in thinking they understand and know about exceptional service. But our job is to transcend what they’re used to. We go beyond what they need in any given moment and also think about the long game. What might they need next week…next month…next year? Our homeowners really see the value in the thoughtful ways we provide service to support and enhance their everyday lives.

Q: What excites you most about Four Seasons Private Residences at 706 Mission, San Francisco?

A: First of all, as a residential-only property, we can devote 100% of our attention to our owners. Second, San Francisco is one of the world’s great cities and I can’t think of a better location than right across from Yerba Buena Gardens. Finally, we’re introducing a first-of-its-kind bespoke Art Program and Wine Program led by industry insiders who are at the top of their fields. Exclusively for our owners, these incredibly talented partners will create unforgettable private experiences that can be found nowhere else in the world.

Q: Tell us about the residential amenities at this property and what makes them unique?

Q: What makes The Club an essential part of the experience?

A: The Club is our richly-appointed amenity floor on the tower’s fifth level for the exclusive use of our owners and their guests. Staffed by a Club Attendant, the space features a staffed bar, lounge, private library and fully equipped game room. There’s no detail we haven’t thought of—and then improved upon. Even our Fitness Center is a step above; a truly bespoke experience designed by Los Angeles celebrity trainer and nutrition expert Harley Pasternak.

Q: Any final words for prospective residents at 706 Mission?

Kerrin “Kerri” Laz of K. LAZ Wine Collection in Yountville is one of Napa Valley’s most beloved wine personalities and trusted consultants. She enjoys insider relationships with nearly every California winemaker worth knowing and is a leading authority on wines in the region. Her ability to secure limited allocations from cult labels has helped her build a truly unique collection of more than 500 wine labels—including some of the most coveted and hard-to-find bottles and undiscovered gems.

Q: What’s your vision for the Wine Program at Four Seasons Private Residences at 706 Mission, San Francisco?

Q: What types of services might residents expect to see?

A: We will definitely create exclusive wine events and experiences available only to residents and their invited guests. Maybe it’s a day trip to a private vineyard with friends to taste wine with the vintner, in person. Perhaps a 3-day weekend to Napa for a more in-depth experience or even a trip to Bordeaux, curated by me and, again, keeping it small, intimate and exclusive. I’m also excited about events we can host inside the building, perhaps blind tastings or other special gatherings to connect residents to the region’s best winemakers—and to each other.

Q: Will you help residents expand their own private collections?

A: Absolutely. I take the personal sommelier approach—velvet glove and high-touch. I’ll start out by really listening and finding out what wines they already love, what mailing lists they’re on, etcetera. Then I’ll hone in on their palates and work with my connections to help them start or build a fabulous collection of their own. Some clients tell me I’m as essential to them as their broker or their attorney, only it’s a whole lot more fun to work with me!

Q: How did you get your start in wine?

A: My first job out of college was at a farm-to-table restaurant in Chapel Hill, which I ended up briefly running. That was quite an experience. Then, on a trip to New York, I stopped in for coffee at Dean & DeLuca and, on a whim, applied for a job. They were just starting their wine business and I was immediately drawn in. It was the right time, with amazing new California wines coming on the scene. I found it so interesting and compelling, helping to build these wine brands. Some of the best wineries have, like, three employees, so they relied on us to get the word out and I really became immersed in that world, fast. Eventually, of course, I branched out and opened my own business in Napa Valley.

MARIA DI GRANDE

Director, Art Program

Maria is the Principal and Founder of MDG Art Advisory LLC, a client-focused art consulting ﬁrm based in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena district. Her passion for mixing and curating contemporary art into distinct environments stems from her background in ﬁne art, art history and business.

Q: What’s your vision for the Art Program at Four Seasons Private Residences at 706 Mission, San Francisco?

Q: What types of services can residents expect to see?

A: Through my relationships in the Bay Area and beyond, I will connect our residents with local and international artists, galleries, museums and other art professionals. Events exclusively for our residents might include private exhibitions in their home, weekend art excursions, one-on-one artist events and behind-the-scenes tours. We’ll publish our own newsletters and exhibition schedules. I also often introduce my clients to specialized, vetted appraisers, authentication experts, framers, law firms, insurance specialists, provenance review and auction houses. The list goes on!

Q: Will you consult with residents on their own private collections?

A: Yes, this is my specialty. Most of all, I see myself as a curator, and while I realize that term is thrown around a lot, it’s really true in my case. I go into an environment and work with the owner and often their designer to imagine, “what is the story? What is the vibration?” And because fine art is an investment, I am also very careful to assess the risk, their personal situation and other factors to develop a relationship based on trust that allows me to completely anticipate their needs and serve them at a high level.

A: I feel that I will connect well with Four Seasons residents because I understand the level of service they expect. My office is right in the neighborhood, so I can be very responsive and work with them personally. The location of the property also puts them right in San Francisco’s art hub, and I can help them discover the very best experiences in their own neighborhood in a way that’s not accessible to just anyone.
